WOK EXPRESS, OUR STORY.
Serving delicious and fast Asian cuisine to Auckland locals since 2006.
Founded in 2007 by Pim and Paul, two individuals with a love for cooking and a desire to share their passion with the people of Auckland, Wok Express has grown into one of the local's favourite Asian restaurants in the city.
Our menu was never restricted to Thai cuisine, which allowed us to adopt a Pan Asian menu with the motto "If it can be cooked in a wok and our customers like it, it can go on the menu!" This approach has enabled us to cherry-pick the most popular dishes from Chinese, Malaysian and Indonesian cuisines to create a diverse and delicious menu.
Our journey was not without its challenges, starting with our first store in Parnell, a tough market with discerning customers, and no commercial experience. However, we worked tirelessly, 7 nights a week, learning as we went along and building a loyal customer base that we still serve to this day.
With 14 years of experience and knowledge, we opened our second store in Kingsland, followed by a third in Ponsonby a year later. In 2020, we opened our fourth and busiest store in Epsom, armed with the knowledge and experience we had gained over the years.
At Wok Express, we believe the combination of Thai and Kiwi cuisine and cultural knowledge has a distinct advantage. Pim provides authenticity and skills, while Paul, with his knowledge of the likes and dislikes of the typical Kiwi customer, knows what their expectations are. We have built our reputation on fresh, healthy and quality meals that are balanced with protein, carbs and healthy vegetables.
We were the first takeaway in New Zealand to import gluten-free oyster sauce and the first to introduce zoodles, cauliflower fried rice, keto and low-carb offerings, as well as one of the most comprehensive vegan menus in Auckland. Innovation is at the heart of what we do and we never stop learning.
